Elementary Math
Without a strong foundational base, students won’t be able to advance to more complicated math. In tutoring elementary students, I use hands on manipulatives such as place value blocks and disks to make sure students have an understanding of a concept before moving on to pencil and paper tasks. A strong grasp of basic math skills is crucial to later success in higher math concepts.
Middle School Math
With pre-Algebra and Algebra students, I maintain close communication with the student’s teacher to enable me to effectively strengthen skills that need more practice. This may involve review of underlying concepts that have been missed or not mastered in the past.
